David’s family business in South Africa, which manufactured solar systems and air source heat pumps since 1979, sparked his interest in energy-efficient design and renewables from a young age. He was involved in designing, installing, and optimising systems, developing new products and building integration methods.
This interest led him to explore the relationship between building fabrics’ performance and the development of building methods that complement local environments and occupants’ intended lifestyle patterns. He combined this with the appropriate use of renewable and conventional heat and energy systems for sensitive results.
David is a well-respected expert in sustainable building and energy efficiency, with over 35 years of experience in the industry. He has a Master’s degree in Sustainable Architecture, is a certified gas-safe, renewables, and ventilation installer, and regularly contributes to Homebuilding and Renovating magazine.
His extensive knowledge in building fabrics, heating systems, heat recovery ventilation, renewables (including heat pump technologies, solar systems, and biomass), and conventional heating systems makes him a sought-after guest speaker and presenter of CPDs and courses at various exhibitions.
David’s passion for healthy and efficient homes led him to become the director of Heat and Energy Ltd. He often works with architects and house builders to design and project-manage appropriate heat-recovery ventilation and heating systems that achieve every home’s healthiest and most energy-efficient outcomes.
